Mentorship Program
The San Francisco IHSS Public Authority Mentorship Program provides IHSS Consumers with highly personalized supplemental support in hiring and retaining independent homecare Providers, as well as understanding and navigating the larger IHSS system.
Enrolled Consumers are connected with peer Mentors who are themselves current or prior IHSS participants. Our Mentors and professional staff provide teaching, coaching, and direct assistance to help Consumers overcome barriers and master the necessary skills to succeed in managing their in-home care.
The Mentorship Program can help Consumers:
- Identify trained and available Providers who are matched to their specific schedule and needs
- Arrange and conduct interviews and file hiring paperwork
- Set up and manage timekeeping accounts in the IHSS electronic services portal and telephone systems
- Establish foundational agreements and healthy communication with their Provider
- Problem solve and maintain safety and integrity
In addition to working directly with Consumers, the Mentorship team also shares information and provides education to the broader IHSS community and general public by presenting at community events, attending resource fairs, and working on special outreach projects with a variety of community partners.
