The PA is committed to ensuring that you are able to access the care and support you need, and are able to make your caregiving experience easier and more efficient.
At the SF IHSS Public Authority, we understand that finding the right caregiver is essential for your well-being. Our Registry matches you with trained, qualified homecare providers based on your unique needs. We take into account factors such as location, language preferences, approved tasks, work schedules, and other important criteria to help ensure a good fit. Once matched, you'll receive a list of potential providers and can interview them directly to choose the one that best meets your needs. Our Registry counselors are also available to assist you with setting provider hours, answering any IHSS-related questions, and offering guidance on communication with your provider, along with providing additional resources and referrals.
We know that sometimes things don't go as planned, which is why we offer Back-Up Provider Services (BUPS) for urgent situations. If your regular caregiver is unavailable or if you're experiencing a gap in care—such as being discharged from the hospital or awaiting a new provider—we can provide immediate, short-term support. This on-call program is available to help you with critical personal care and household tasks until your regular provider can resume their work. The program is designed for consumers referred by IHSS social workers, ensuring that you always have access to the care you need, when you need it most.
Navigating the IHSS system can be overwhelming at times, but you don't have to do it alone. Our Mentorship Program offers ongoing support and guidance to help you make the most of your homecare experience. Whether you're new to IHSS or seeking additional assistance, our mentors are here to answer questions, provide advice, and help you understand your rights and responsibilities. This program is designed to ensure that you and your provider have the resources you need for a successful caregiving relationship, helping you live as independently and comfortably as possible.
